I never really thought that the Oilers would get back the value that they already have in the player. Just my opinion. |

The longer the deal goes on, the closer to the 4.1 he's already getting it has to be.
5 is fine I guess for 2 years. What else do we have to spend it on? 5 for 4 years is disastrous.
I was hoping that we could get Smyth and Hemsky re-signing for a combined cap hit of 9 million or under. I think we could be on track still... |

Top 6?:

Not a bad opinion, seems to be consensus, but this time of year GM's can get a bit desperate. You never know for sure though. I would like it if he signs, then he can drop all the pressure and get back to the point per game Hemmer that we know he is. |

5mil is a bit steep. Id give hemsky term for 4mil. Now EDM can deal Omark for Franson or Aulie. Or maybe PRV is deal for a Dman now. |

Hemsky is $5mil. Smyth should be around $3.5mil |

I think the biggest reason the Oilers are more interested in signing Hemsky is that the big deal they wanted just isn't there. Hemsky is worth more here than elsewhere. |

I don't think anyone in Edmonton has to go. They will not make the playoffs, and they wouldn't get a top 4 dman at this point in the season. They have a ton of prospects in the cupboard. Unless someone offers up something you can't refuse, then there is no point. |

Well him at 5mil for 2 yrs does help with salary hitting the cap floor if no major moves are made and they let the young D develope. In 2 yrs his 5mil is off the books and goes for Hall and Eb's big contract. |

Depending on how Maggy develops and whoever the Oil take at the draft, the Oilers could have quality Hemsky replacements in a year or two. |

Listen, I’ve always been a fan of Hemsky. The only knock I have on him is the guy seems to get hurt like every second shift, and injured every few games. I used to play with a guy like that too. I never understood it but he always just seemed to be in pain.
I think if an opposing team felt that they could get him for a run, they might take it up because to me, he’s a legit 2 RW with an upside of a 1 on many nights. Very under rated shot, but probably because he never uses it when he should. I like the guy but that injury history, which was once described by someone as a flag that the player wouldn’t play through pain, would always hamper the types of offers a player of his ability should get. So yeah, the Oilers already have a better asset than they will acquire in my opinion. I’d happily keep him if all I was getting was a 18-24 in the first round and a B level prospect and someone’s pro roster junk. To me the best trade they could have made involving Hemsky was the one they turned down. |

PRV package may get you a Ellis deal before Hemsky does. Only because PRV is so much younger and i could see him in the Nashville system. Outside of D to develope there is some good forwards in the EDM system. |

I think you would see some improvement in Hemsky if he had a real center. Horcoff is freaking terrible. I wish him and Krejci could be on the same line...
DAMN YOU! |

I'd think that this isn't the best time in Nashville to be dumping a blue chip defenseman prospect with Suter and Weber's UFA years looming. |

Is it a possibility they resign him so his trade value increses???? |

I would think so, but I could also see him absolutely demand a no movement clause based on this past year and a half. If he does re-sign, he probably deserves it. |

Preds are gonna want Forwards. I think think that Suter and Weber both are gonna stay in Nashville. I was gonna say maybe Blum but im not sure who would get the better of that. Edm could use the pure Offense of Ellis. |

What about Hemsky's past 5 years makes them think he is worth 5M per season with the amount of young talent on this team.
He has injuries, his inconsistent play, only has 20+ goals twice.
He does have some very nice assist seasons I will give them that. |

Never thought of that...it could work.
From what I've heard a limited NTC will be part of the deal. |

5 million per is simply too much. So much for the "hometown discount."
Considering Hemsky's injuries, I'd value him at 4 million at most. Given his supposed hard-on for Edmonton, and his desire to remain with the team long-term, he should be suggesting 3-3.5 for say 5 years. |

wouldnt that hurt his trade value bc then teams would be stuck with him... i would think more teams are looking at him for a push to the playoffs or extra help... if he resigns he will be there until the deal ends IMO |
